Sometimes I need a minute

Just for me to think, just me

If one thought made the truth

We’d all be stumbling around in darkness

And there’d be nothing left of me anymore

But now I’m diving in deeper,

Trying to find out if there’s truth to anything.

Have we been living in the dark?

Before your only friend is a broken heart,

Before you understand who you are,

Before the symphony at sundown,

Before the movie montage that moves you,

Before love is a warm biscuit, Sunday morning.

Before you find your way out of the dark,

Before you wake up in a celebration,

Before the last of your plenty of chances,

Before you close your eyes and find sleep,

Are you breathing like there’s air in the atmosphere,

Or does everything just seem too cruel to take in?

I finally started to figure it out

I heard it so many times before

From the dirt they were throwing at me

To the mountain they’ve been climbing

Wouldn’t my God call that Love?

Lost in the moment, know where you’re going

The meeting of strength and weakness

Nothing left to prove, feelings of freedom

Even when it stops moving like a whiplash

Even when it misses the marks it could hit

It can be a slow dance, don’t even pretend

That the dark taught you that feeling-

Love is what it feels like to stop the darkness,

Love is what comes after the lonely roads.
